Kaban Family Farm
The Family Farm Of Mike and Anne Kaban
It is unknown when the farm was established but it was a 640 acre mixed farm owned by Mike Karapeta. Dad purchased the farm after Mike’s house burned in 1950.
The following year Mike and Anne were married and built a new house and began farming, and raising a family.
Summer was a time to work growing a garden picking stones, stacking fire wood or days spent on a hay rack working to stack thousands of bales of hay and straw for the 100 head of cattle they raised to survive the Saskatchewan winter.
Vacation time was maybe one day in July going to to the Yorkton Exihibition and Summer fair.
Every year Dad took wheat to the Yorkton Flour Milll and had it made into flour. This was usually enough to last us for the whole year. As children, we remember the flour coming home in huge white 100 lb. bags. Than later the bags were used for a variety of items that mom would sew and use.
The farm was sold in 1973. Mike worked at Morris Rod Weeder until his retirement. Anne worked at numerous restaurants as a waitress until her retirement.
Dad Died in 1998 he was 67 years old. Mom died in 2012 at 82 years of age.
